present the Chinese pianist Xiaopei Xu
This is the first Cultural Center event at the IDB featuring China.
Xiaopei Xu, pianist was born in Rizhao City, Shandong Province, China in 1990. Xiaopei began her piano lessons with her father at the age of three. In 2002, she came to Beijing and continued to study with Ms. Manchun Chen. Entering the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 2003, she studied with Xiaofeng Zhang. In the winter of 2007, Xiaopei came to the United States as a full scholarship high school student. In 2008, she won 1st Prize in the International Young Artists Piano Competition in Washington D.C; and 1st Prize, Ensemble Round in the Fourth New York Piano Competition, founded and presented by the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation. She is currently studying with Dr. Xun Pan at Pennsylvania Academy of Music and completing her Academic classes at Linden Hall.
Xiaopei has been a prizewinner in a number of national and international competitions. In 2005, she won 3rd Prize in the Chinese National Kawai Cup Piano Competition; 1st Prize in the North China qualification competition of the 69th Steinway International Piano Competition; and 3rd Prize in the National level. In 2006, she won the 1st Prize in the Young Artist Competition in Russia, and in 2007, won the Oberlin Piano Competition. During her studies at the China Conservatory, Xiaopei received the Distinguished Student Award every year.
Xiaopei Xu has performed publicly at many distinguished venues receiving high acclaim. She has given solo recitals in Beijing, Rizhao, Lancaster, and New York City. She also attended several festivals, including the 2005 Music Naturally Festival in Pennsylvania, USA; the 2006 Young Artist Piano Festival in Russia; and the 2009 Annual Music Festival at Walnut Hill in Boston, USA.

This event is free and open to the public.
