Description: The Christmas day terrorist attempt has provided a stark warning that our nation’s intelligence community still suffers from “human and systemic failures.” In fact, nearly a decade after the 9-11 attacks, intelligence officers still lack the kinds of sophisticated analytical software tools that help automatically connect dots to enable individual intelligence officers to do a better job. With this in mind, the President has called for accelerated investment in IT, “to include knowledge discovery, database integration, and cross-database searches, and the ability to correlate biographic information with terrorism-related intelligence.” Please join ITIF for a panel discussion on the role of IT in the intelligence community, the barriers to IT system upgrades, and what additional steps Congress and the administration can take to ensure that our intelligence analysts and law enforcement agents have the IT tools they need to keep us safe.
