ClotureGirl: Interview with FamousDC.com

FamousDC.com

I recently interviewed two great guys (Amos and Josh) of FamousDC.com. I hope you enjoy!

1.     What was your inspiration behind FamousDC?

FamousDC is about the Capitol Hill staffers who are often never recognized for burning the midnight oil, the reporters who sprint the halls of Congress in order to file that last minute story, the interns responsible for setting up press conferences, and that special Longworth cashier who puts smiles on faces everyday.

2.     Y’all outed yourselves this year as the creators after three years of being anonymous. Why? And what’s been the best/worst part of the change?

Quite simply, we felt the time was right. With the help of Shane Harris of the Washingtonian, we were able to tell the story behind FamousDC, and why we’re so passionate about building a like-minded community; the dozen anonymous contributors who work and play in and around Washington DC are what drives the site each day.

The best part has been the overwhelming support we’ve received since drawing back the curtain. It’s been a wild ride watching our audience grow and we’re consistently amazed by the support our site continues to receive.

The worst part: paying the lawyers.

3.      I’m new to DC. What’s the best advice you’ve got for surviving inside the beltway?

Keep your head down, your fingers crossed and the rest is a coin flip. Remember, cream rises to the top, so take your time. Another gem of advice from one of our anonymous contributors: You’ll always work with idiots; chances are, they’ll be your boss. Don’t let any idiots – your boss or otherwise – allow you to work any less hard.

4.     July 4th is just around the corner. What are your plans for celebrating?

We’re planning a two-man flash mob at the Georgetown Safeway. We’re thinking the frozen food aisle, but we’re still shaking out the details.

5.     Both of you are from the south. What are your thoughts on #BowTieFriday?

Was the hashtag #BowTieThursday too long?  #weleavethebowtiewearingtotheprofessionals

6.     Here’s a question I recently got from one of my followers, what advice would you have for them?

Dear Cloture Girl -
I’ve just started on Capitol Hill as an intern. What do you suggest and how to go about getting a promotion from intern to staffer?

Work harder than the staff assistant, dress better than the press secretary and tell funnier jokes than the the chief of staff.  Bonus: Read our capitol hill flowchart and plan a smart course before you end up on a plane back home, never to be heard from again.

Thanks again FamousDC.com for your time.
