Nasa Reception

Nasa Reception

Location: Florida House at 1 Second Street, NE
Description: The mission, the 25th and final flight of Space Shuttle Endeavour, was commanded by Mark Kelly, with Gregory H. Johnson (pilot), Michael Fincke, Greg Chamitoff, Andrew Feustel, and the European Space Agency’s Roberto Vittori also on board (all mission specialists). STS-134 launched on May 16, 2011 and delivered the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-2 (AMS) and an ExPRESS Logistics Carrier to the International Space Station (ISS) before returning to Earth on June 1, 2011. The AMS, a groundbreaking particle physics detector, is designed to help researchers study the formation of the universe and search for evidence of dark matter, strange matter, and antimatter. The ExPRESS Logistics Carrier brought to space critical spare parts to ensure the ISS’s continued safe operation now that the Space Shuttle Program has ended.

Of course, this mission has been of special interest because STS-134 Commander Mark Kelly is married to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

A reception with light refreshments will take place August 3 at the Florida House at 1 Second Street, NE, from 5:30 PM through 7:30 PM. This event is open to all Members and staff. A separate invitation has been sent out, and RSVPs should also be sent to John.Gaine@nasa.gov.
