Press Secretary will be responsible for: writing press releases, speeches, talking points, and op-eds; pitching stories to reporters; oversee website content; organize media events; develop and maintain relationships with local and national media; and creating and executing communications initiatives. Congressman Frank Pallone seeks a Communications Director with at least five years public relations or journalism experience to lead a two person press operation where he or she will serve as chief communications adviser and oversee strategic messaging on the House floor.
Responsibilities include: serving as chief spokesperson; cultivating relationships with national, local, trade and blog reporters; developing and managing the member’s new/social media strategy; developing and implementing aggressive and proactive press outreach strategy; planning press conferences; and writing or editing all communications materials including news releases, opinion/editorials, speeches and constituent newsletters.
Successful candidate will also collaborate with leadership and committee staff to determine and implement the weekly Democratic message on the House floor, and will organize weekly message meetings that are attended by both members and staff.
