The Organization

The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund was established in 1981 to facilitate full Latino participation in the American political process.  The NALEO Educational Fund carries out this mission by developing and implementing non-partisan programs that promote Latino civic participation and voter engagement, provide technical assistance and training to the nation’s Latino elected and appointed officials, and conduct policy analysis and research on issues affecting Latino access to the political process.

 

The NALEO Educational Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization governed by a 15-member Board of Directors and a

28-member Board of Advisors. Both Boards are comprised of members of Congress, state and local elected officials, and corporate leaders from across the country. The NALEO Educational Fund maintains offices in Los Angeles, Washington DC, Houston, and New York. The Position

The Senior Policy Analyst is located in Washington, DC and reports to and works collaboratively with the Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs in analyzing, advocating and lobbying on public policy issues relevant to the NALEO Educational Fund’s mission.  Other responsibilities include writing advocacy-related documents, and monitoring and analyzing congressional and administrative developments.   The Senior Policy Analyst must maintain and strengthen excellent working relationships with Administration officials, and House and Senate personnel and Committee offices.  Additionally, the position requires working collaboratively with partner advocacy organizations and coalitions.  The Senior Policy Analyst must acquire general knowledge of Latino political access issues including naturalization, immigration, the Census, appropriations, voting rights and election reform, and federal appointments. The annual salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Qualifications

§  Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.  (Writing samples are required)

§  Ability to take initiative, organize and prioritize workload efficiently.

§  Outstanding organizational, administrative, and advocacy skills.  Ability to articulate public policy positions of NALEO Educational Fund, and implement effective policy strategies on behalf of the organization.

§  At least 4 years of legislative/administrative advocacy and/or policy analysis experience on Capitol Hill, State or local government, or non-profit organization required; Congressional experience preferred.

§  Knowledge of Latino political and civic engagement issues preferred but not required.

§  Ability to read, analyze and summarize primary legislative and administrative materials (such as bills, statutes and regulations).

§  Ability to work respectfully with people from all cultural, socioeconomic and political backgrounds.

ANNOUNCEMENT from Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (www.cbpp.org):

We are accepting applications for the 2012 State Policy Fellowship Program, an initiative of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (www.cbpp.org) , a national policy institute, and the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative (SFAI), a network of influential and independent state policy organizations.  The program seeks to increase the diversity of the next generation of leaders who will help shape state policies and fiscal choices that affect disadvantaged families and communities.

Fellows will spend two years as entry-level analysts in a state policy organization in the SFAI network (www.statefiscal.org).  Fellows will research and write analyses on current policy issues; brief policymakers, journalists, and others on these issues; and serve as a resource for advocates and community groups.  The program provides ongoing career development and training, including a week-long seminar in Washington, D.C. and national policy conferences sponsored by CBPP.  Fellows will also be partnered with mentors who are leaders in their field.

Each fellow will receive an annual salary of $45,000 – $50,000 (regional salary adjustments may be applied to higher-cost locations).  In addition, health benefits will be included.

The National Wildlife Federation is seeking a Wildlife and Climate Safeguards Intern to support NWF’s Climate Change Safeguards team, which focuses on climate change adaptation, wildlife protection and responsible renewable energy development. Responsibilities:
