Stallone’s returns in “Bullet to the Head”

Stallone’s “Bullet to the Head” is your typical Singular-Man-On-a-Mission film. If this should give Stallone anything, it’s a little extra money in the bank, and a little swagger to shoot more movies like this one- low quality by any definition, but sort of rompy and fun for the viewer. Movies like this one, or Expendables 1 and 2, or the recent Parker, have a curious role to play in the culture we live in now.

While conversations around political correctness and gender/sexual equality have swept through legislatures and the dinner tables across America, these movies seem immune, or rather ignorant to them; the men are tough, the women weak and vulnerable, needing protection. These movies have become quaint, ironic even, and in that light, you can enjoy them. Anyone attempting to derive anything but pure and silly pleasure from these movies should be met with extreme skepticism. There is a lot of pleasure to take – including an axe fight at the end in an old abandoned warehouse. Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.
