If you dig oysters you should check out Tel’Veh. The Turkish inspired mezze café and wine bar offers 5 or so varieties of oysters every day. From 4:30 t0 7:30 on weekdays they serve one variety for $1 an oyster. I remember the days when you couldn’t find an oyster in DC for under $3. I am glad those days are gone.
I attend their oyster class last night and had a great time. Dan the Oyster Man, as well as the GM and Chef educated the diners on the nuances of a few west coast and east coast varieties. The champagne and the muscadet flowed as we enjoyed the freshly shucked oysters. A couple of cooked oyster dishes were served as well. The oyster soufflé was delicate and delicious. It had a drizzle of pesto oil on top that gave it a bright flavor. The oyster classes are being held on the first Monday of every month and are only $35 per person. You can call Tel’Veh at 202-758-2929 to reserve your spot (this first one filled up quickly).

Raw Oysters
Tel’Veh is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. We did a review of the mezze a couple of months ago. You can check out the review here.
