WASHINGTON, DC – November 12, 2012 The Fairfax at Embassy Row, a Starwood Luxury Collection hotel, in conjunction with its signature restaurant, 2100 Prime, is pleased to announce the Fourth Annual Capital Wine Festival starting January 25. The 10-week dinner event kicks off with a grand opening reception on January 25 at 6:30 p.m. which will highlight the 10 wineries sponsoring the event. New this year, the Capital Wine Festival will also feature local wineries (invited: Boxwood Vineyards, Tarara Winery, Doukénie Winery and Barboursville) at the reception reiterating its commitment to “buy local; drink local.”
Modeled after the prestigious Boston Wine Festival, the dinners, hosted by the winemaker or proprietor, this year will showcase wines from California, Portugal and Italy. This year’s selection of wineries are unique and exquisite, providing a once in a life time opportunity to taste outstanding new wines, while learning of the winemaker’s approach to their winemaking. Founder of the event, Daniel Bruce has invited these wineries for 2013 as they represent some of his favorite wineries from California, Italy and Portugal.
Menus will be created by Chris Ferrier, Executive Chef for the hotel and 2100 Prime. Each menu is individually created to complement the vintner’s selection for that dinner. Dinners will take place at 6:30 p.m. in 2100 Prime providing an intimate dining experience. The wineries and hosts participating in this year’s Capital Wine Festival are listed below, along with dates of their participation.

January 29, Darioush Winery: Most noted for its Bordeaux-style estate wines, Darioush crafts fine wines from its vineyards located in Napa Valley. Join host Allen Papp and experience this winery’s sensible approach to winemaking. $145
February 5, Pine Ridge Vineyards: Pine Ridge in Napa Valley has a long reputation for creating elegant, distinct, and expressive wines. Hear Michael Beaulac’s firsthand account of Pine Ridge’s past and present winemaking and savor its phenomenal lineup of red wines. $135
February 12, Heitz Wine Cellars: The winery is known for its earthy Bordeaux-style wines, especially its Cabernet Sauvignon. Jeanne Cabral returns to share wines from Heitz’s portfolio and discuss the winery’s unique single-vineyard concept. $125
February 19, Burgess Cellars: We are honored to have Steve Burgess host for the first time at the Capital Wine Festival. This small family-owned winery has terroir at its heart, integrating it into their wine making and production for over 30 years. $125
February 26, Miner Family Wines: Winemaker Gary Bookman hosts the evening’s dinner. This is a great opportunity to experience the vineyard’s sensational portfolio of wines including its single-vineyard Pinot Noir, Oakville Cabernet as well as their proprietal blend, Oracle. $125
March 5, Patz and Hall: Donald Patz will present a spectacular display of terroir driven wines produced from the winery’s distinctive vineyard sites, including the outstanding Pisoni Vineyard’s Pinot Noir. $125
March 12, Pio Cesare: Pio Cesare has been producing top Barolos, Barbescos, Barberas and Nebbiolos since 1881. Meet Pio Boffa, great-grandson of the founding family, for an unforgettable evening of hand-crafted, classically styled and renowned Piedmont wines. $125
March 19, Wine & Soul:Owner/winemaker Sandra Tavares de Silva presents an outstanding selection of Portuguese wines, produced in Douro, overlooking the Douro River and the moun-tainous region of Portugal. These wines are some of the most highly regarded wines in Portugal. $135
March 26, Tres Sabores and Calder Wine Co.: This is a unique opportunity to meet two artisan winemakers from Napa- mother Julie Johnson and son Rory Williams. Julie, owner and winemaker from Tres Sabores, showcases her boutique wines; alongside Rory, owner and winemaker from Calder Wine Company, who makes one of only a handful of Charbonos produced in the world. $125
